First off, THANK YOU John for starting this blog. I had Mrs. Robertson for Kindergarten too and then went to a Catholic school for the next 3 years and returned for 4th - 6th grade! I also had Mrs. Tryon and Mrs. Lawson, but I cannot remember my 6th grade teachers name. She was tall and thin and had reddish hair. I remember Mrs. Tryon was mean and would slap the chalk board with her ruler when we were doing our chalkboard assignments wrong. She scared me to death.

I went on to McLean and was the last class to graduate from there and then on to North High School and graduated in 1975. I was an Elementary major at ISU and did my internship with Mrs. Lawson. She was always so kind and pretty and she had not changed a bit.

It's so sad that they tore this building down. I remember the beautiful stairways with the wooden rails. Does anyone remember the basement and walking through the area with furnace or whatever that was in the "caged" area? I was always afraid down there. They also had those monkey bars on asphalt! I am sure that would NEVER fly today! I would go over after school and in the summer and hit tennis balls off the side of the building and ride my bike down the overpass. So many good memories. I am still friends with several of my classmates from Rea.

I would love to find Susan Tucker. She was a little younger than me and would have graduated from HS in 1977. Her mother died when she was very young and she moved. If anyone has any information, please let me know.

Again, Thanks John!

Hi, I used to go to Rea school back in 1956, 57,& 58...My sister and I were talking about the school, and she mentioned the peanut butter sandwiches they would bring out and sell for like 3 cents a piece. I remember these were the best sandwiches ever. Just was wondering if you knew if they made the them or bought them....or if you remember them.....would like to know if you could give me some feedback. As to whether they made or bought the peanut butter.

Thanks for any info you can give me.....

I also went to Rea, I went there k-6. I remember going down to the music room after lunch and watching cartoons. When it was raining in morning they would make the boys go to on side of the basememt and the girls the other side. My class was suposed to be the last 6th grade before it closed, but there was a delay in building the other school. Some of my teachers were, Miss Clevenger, Mrs Yeager, Mrs Wedding,Mrs Slivermen,Mrs Lawson, Mr Smith and Mrs Ard. I can't belive that i can still remember all of them, but when you go to a great school, I guess you can. Even though it's gone it lives forever in my memory.

Hey there. I have been sure that a google search for my name would be a waste of time, but things at work are slow and I started with an image search before I added my middle name and found this. I am active in the theatre scene in Peoria, IL. Peoria is not a large town and yet I am one of two John Johnsons active locally. People will sometimes see a review in the paper and ask me about my show when I am not doing a show right then. I presume the other John Johnson gets the same.

Being John Johnson has given me extra challenges all my life. I was tired of the "My name is Yohn Yohnson. I come from Wisconsin" song by the time I was four. People still "surprise" me with it and expect it to be new to me. When I was going into Jr. High we moved to a town of 700. I became the fourth John Johnson in town. Not long after I was married, my wife received a card of condolences on the loss of her husband. With the use of the return address she was able to call the sender to let her know that her card had not arrived at the home of the correct John Johnson, but we could not help her find the right one.

I truly do not mean to complain. I just thought it might be nice to share my minor annoyance with someone who should understand.

I am not familiar with Shades State Park (did I get that name right?)but we stay and hike at Turkey Run once or twice a year. We love it there.

Also, I don't grasp the concept of "donkey chicken". Is that a donkey that is afraid as well as stubborn, or is it a chicken that doesn't taste just like chicken? I may never know.

I'm closing in on time to go home. I guess I'll go back to facebook. How many John Johnsons do you suppose are on there?

Hello John Johnson!

I do seem to definitely remember you. If you are the person I think you are, I recall your face--you wore glasses, and you sang in the choir. Do you know that I have recollection of you singing "O Holy Night" during a Christmas choir presentation, which I believe was held in the cafeteria? It can be amazing how well one remembers certain details of their life. I graduated from FPCHS in 1982. We would often sit at the same table during lunch. There was another guy who sat with us named "Doug Espeseth", who was on the golf team, and would give us an "exciting" shot by shot account on a blank sheet of notebook paper, of a day on the green. You may remember my brother "Rick" more than you remember me, as he also graduated in 1980. Only by chance, in doing a FPCHS search (as I wanted to know when our old school was to be demolished, making room for the brand new facilty) did I happen upon your site.

Anyway, I hope you remember me (I wasn't in any group or class organizations) but I'd like to hear from you, just to say hi and relate some high school memories. If it's any help to refresh your memory, I was friends with Joe Mola ('81), Gary Keller ('82), Jeff and Dave Koerner ('80 and '91 respectively) to name a few people that we might be have known. I actually miss the school, or at least some memories of those I attended Central with, and was sort of sad to hear that it was being torn down, but I realize no building can last forever. Some of the school's buidings, like the Science, were damaged and torn down after the storms of 2005.

Do you remember John Eastman? ('81). He was in the band. I miss him alot, and haven't seen him since the mid-80's. He had a great sense of humor, and had me often in stitches with his offbeat type of humor. I would like to try to locate him if possible, utilizing perhaps a reunion type of site, to find old friends.

Ok John, take care and hope to hear from you.

Sincerely,
Robert Spreitzer

I too went to Rea Elementary as a kid living nearby. I remember the fun we had at recess running around that big playground and playing wirlybirds - I think there was a show on television at the time about helicopter pilots. I also remember having a race with a kid on a bike and beating him. Everybody was amazed at how fast I was for a little kid. I don't remember any of my teachers by name but I do remember our Kindergarten teacher allowing us to get up in front of the class and putting on shows for each other and getting peanut butter sandwiches for a snack break. They were always good. I hate that they have torn down the building. Fond memories from the 1950s.
