Here are the comments written in my 1980 Fort Pierce Central High School Hamadryad yearbook.
In this yearbook I appear within the ‘P’ inside both the front and back covers.
I’m surprised how many freshmen I remember. I think I used to have a freshman posse.
The references to a uniform at State refer to the fact that I forgot my concert band uniform on the trip to the State band competition. The funny thing is that I was Uniform Supply Sergeant, who’s responsibility was to make sure that everyone’s uniforms made the trip. I was first chair clarinet so I was seated at the front of the stage and it was important that I be dressed appropriately. I had to borrow pants from Mickey Crawford and a jacket from someone in percussion, I believe.
The name Hedda refers to a fictional character I told stories about. Hedda was named after Henrik Ibsen’s Hedda Gabler. Apparently Hedda loved everyone.

John, I would like to write something profound here that you could always look at and be inspired. But what can I say to the valedictorian? You would probably already know it, whatever it would be, so I will dispense with that idea. You have been a good friend and slave driver for years now. I wonder whether you will remember the good things or the bad things. I will not mention names
Robert
Your intelligence and wisdom will carry you all the way. Keep up the good work.

John, have a great summer! Good luck in everything you do! Now, for the good stuff! You really were (& still am) a great friend. You were always the one that could make someone happy when they were down! Come and visit us (band) every once in awhile!! Remember… Hedda wants you! Love Mary Carter “81″

It’s been really nice knowing you and I wish you all the luck in the world. Good luck. Wendy’s lives on. Doris Cobb

John, Well I hope you find someone at college to test your intelligence like I did. Stay on your toes because I’ll probably need a good lawyer if I’m a professional boxer. You’ll have to get me off all those [...] charges. Remember you owe me for letting you have my pants at State. Hope to keep in touch. Good luck in everything. Love, Mickey Crawford

I’m really glad I got to know you better this year. I’ve really had a good time at parties and other things when you were there. I had a great time when I worked with you at Wendy’s. We had a really great time. I’m sorry if I hadn’t paid too much attention to you this year. You are a really great guy. You have everything going for you – intelligence, personality, humor, etc. You are a real crazy guy and I know I’ll never meet anybody to compare to you. Knowing you has been a real experience. You really do a good job making people laugh ’cause you have a great sense of humor (Ken’s parties, Atlanta, who’s got Hedda?). Well, this looks like all I can think of so I’ll end it. Best of luck in everything you do. You really deserve it since you’ve worked so hard for valedictorian. Keep in touch and don’t forget us at University of Virginia Avenue! Love ya lots, Sue “80″
Kathy England
I am so glad I got to know you better. It has been a lot of fun. I’ll never forget the lectures in Ms. Burns class or Mr. Schwenger’s explanations. P.E. was fun when we got to do what we wanted instead of dancing, gym, or SOFTBALL. I hope you enjoy college and have a good time. Don’t forget that class of 81 is the best. Be good and don’t forget the “good” times at FPC. Love ya, Kathy

I really don’t know what to write. I can’t wish you luck because it’s all going your way anyhow. Hope I see you in Indiana if I ever head out that way. Keep up the good work in band , though I was never in band. I’ve been to the football games and pep rallies to know that you’re good. We had fun in right field during PE 4th hour. Hope it lasts!! Someday you may find out that you weren’t perfect after all. When that day comes, please tell me! That’ll be the day the world ends – I wanna be there. Sorry for the mess and lack of direction. Now for the cliche. Good luck in the years to come – you’ll make it in anything you do! Have a great summer. Hope to see you around. Sincerely, Thomas F. Foley “Class of 80″

John, I hope you have as much fun in college as you have been lately (Ken’s). You kind of surprised me, but then again I’m not the least bit surprised. Too bad you couldn’t make it with us on the band excursion. It’s great doing a half-time show half-[unreadable]! Anyway, I wish you the best of luck, you won’t need it, and I hope you can have a good time at college. Don’t overestimate your capacity for inebriating beverages! Friends always Mike Hankins ‘80 1st Trombone

Remember the good times we had in 8th grade fighting for the first chair in band. I believe Mr. Clark cheated for you because he didn’t like girls to be first chair anyway. I have had a lot of fun being in the band and knowing you these few years. I’m not going to say I hope you will succeed in the future because I know you will. Good luck. Vick Patterson c/o 80 Rifles #1 Clarinets

John, I hope you can find it in your heart to tell yourself the truth about forgetting your uniform at State, and tell me you’re sorry for accusing me for forgetting it. Anyway, I’m kind of glad I worked with you in uniforms this year. Seriously, I hope all your dreams come true. Good luck in the future and all your life through. Remember all the fun at Burger King after football games, and try to behave yourself! Band Rules Friends, Penny c/o “80″
Vicki ?
To John, I wish I had been at Ken’s party but you know how it is when you’re responsible. If you can be valedictorian so can I. I wish you the best of luck in all you successfully do. And remember us stupid people. Hugs & kisses, Vicki P.S. You’re fantastic.! P.S.S. Give it to Kim.
More to come later…
