Rea Comments

Information about Rea here.

There used to be a pedestrian overpass over Third Street for the kids who lived west of that street to walk to the school. I lived east of the school, and I find it strange that I never went to the other side of Third to see what was over there. To this day it is terra incognita to me.

Here is a kindergarten class photo:

Oh my goodness! This is my kindergarten class (1967-68)! The teacher was Mrs. Robertson and the principal was Mr. Jay Duly. I am in the back row with the ribbon in my hair, standing next to my cousin Kris, the tall girl! I have wonderful memories of Rea School. The overpass was built over 3rd street as a response to my cousin, Vickie Barnett, being hit by a car and killed in 1961 in front of the school on 3rd street. There was a public outcry for safety of the school children after the accident. Architecturally this was a beautiful school and I was sad to see it torn down.
